Phil Anderson Cycling presents a post Covid19 series of weekend escapes in the Otway’s. In the new normal where travel is limited Phil would like to share the secret rides in his own backyard. The stunningly beautiful Great Ocean Road precinct offers some of the best riding, walking, running, surfing and scenery in the world. Now is the time to explore the Otway’s.
This opportunity is for you and 3 to 4 of your ride group. We expect that you will have like riding competencies and thus dictate your own pace. The rides are guided and supported. This package can be extended to include up to 4 partners, riding or non riding with a flow over option for 2 single additions to the group.
Choose between the Amy’s Gran Fondo Circuit or alternatively another of Phil Anderson’s favourite training loops, “the Hell of the South”. The moniker, coined by Phil years ago has stuck with many of the local riders.
There is much more, beach walks, runs, surf or swim.

Day 2, Ride: Choice of 130km loops
Ride Host: Meet & start at Cape Patton
From the moment you start your ride you will be greeted with the world famous vistas of the Great Ocean Road. Each ride, Hell of the South or the Gran Fondo circuit can be a big day in the saddle and each ride presents its challenges. The rides are coast to coast often cresting the Otway range a number of times.
Hell of the South passes through the most southern township on mainland Australia before heading North East where the road starts to gradually narrow. Now you enter one of the most scenic and technical sections of road in the Otway Rain forest and as you sweep quietly through the gullies this will be one of the most magical ride experiences you will encounter. Finally you will turn for the coast.
Alternatively if the choice is the now famous Gran Fondo loop this is your chance to train on the course before the race without the crowds. Phil does prefer time out whenever he is training and often stops at the Forrest brewery en-route.
Your meal tonight can be self catered or at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: Coastal walk 13.7km
Non Riders: Wye River- Jamieson River optional walk
For the non riders the newly developed Jamieson Creek Walking Track at 13.7km return is a rigourous effort.
After an early breakfast head to Wye River for a coffee at the General if you like before walking to 1.5km to Seperation Creek to start the walk. Funded by Parks Victoria after the Wye River Bushfires in 2015 the Walk to Jamieson River campground and return is magnificent. The views of the ocean, when they arrive are a framed vision surrounded by the backdrop of the Otway’s national park. Return to the Wye General for a well deserved lunch before returning to Cape Patton.
The walking/exploring options are plentiful, though some beach walks are dependent on tides.
Arriving home mid-afternoon you will all have time to refresh and relax, have a nap, afternoon tea, massage or perhaps a walk and swim at the beach. Curl up for the afternoon with a book of your choice or one from the shelves. You could continue to explore the bush surrounds and the local coast if you have energy to spare.

Day 3: Great Ocean Road
Today's Ride: 80km
A cyclists early start awaits as we recommend a ride with the rising sun reflecting on the water. We suggest a classic coffee shop ride on the Great Ocean Road direction Lorne. This ride is on the section of the Great Ocean Road considered the most scenic. The vista’s of the beautiful hilly coastline will mesmerize and it is considered to be some of the best riding in the world.
If your legs are still hungry for more there is the option of the alternate loop with a late check out arranged.
Our aim at the end of this week end of riding is for you have taken away not only a great weekend experience but to have in the least gained new ride insights. There is always that look of casual nonchalance that only someone who has spent more time on the saddle than you can imagine has, that should be studied along with garnering descending tips, the nuances of how your bike feels when you climb, descend or just how to pedal better with the wind in your face.

Day 3: 5 km Guided Secret walk.
5km Home - Beach walk
Today’s walk needs to be guided as the path is hidden.
Carved through the bush you will descend through changing terrains, first rainforest then to coastal scrub before arriving at the magnificent beach nestled on the rocky shores under Cape Patton.
Return to the house via the coast and driveway.
LATE CHECKOUT; at your leisure
We hope you enjoyed your Otway experience.
