2020 Giro d’Italia

23rd May 2020

Day 01 Stage 14 TT Conegliano > Valdobbiadene 33.7 km

Welcome Ride: 45 - 65km

Welcome to the staging of the 2020 Giro d’Italia. If you are already in Italy meet us at our Pre-tour hotel in Venice at 1000 or alternatively we will pick you up at the Venice Marco Polo international airport at 0830. We will pass the Venice Mestre Train station at 0930 if that is more to your liking.

Once we have all convened at our Tour start hotel we will pack our bikes and transfer to our new home for the next 2 nights. Check in complete we will prepare for our Welcome Ride. This ride will launch you into your 2020 Giro d’Italia campaign with a 1250m climb on the first day, a good test of the legs as we head to the ITT stage finish area to experience our first taste of the pro’s on the 2020 Giro course.

Your first meal in Italy is on the house.  We will celebrate your arrival, the meeting of new friends and the Giro d’Italia with some great wine and local food, bound to be a highlight.

24th May 2020

Day 02 Stage 15 Base Aerea Rivolto > Piancavallo 183 Km

Today's Ride: 45 - 105km, 2600m Elevation

As the peloton heads toward the Dolomites there is a sense of dread that only these architecturally crafted peaks can inspire. The steepness of the climbs can be breathtaking racing over these climbs can end Giro aspirations.

We have a ride planned that will include climbing the beautiful 1127m Passo Crosetta before tackling the Piancavallo which is the final climb of todays Giro stage. Here we will stop and spectate with the passion of the tifosi to see who takes stage honours on this grueling stage before we descend and head for home.

Celebrate your ride, the Giro and all things cycling in town tonight at your leisure.

25th May 2020

Day 03 Giro d'Italia REST DAY

Today's Ride: 35km - 65km/ 2000m Elevation

While the pro’s have a rest day from the race they will definitely have a ride, rolling the legs over km’s and hills that would probably hurt us more than our scheduled ride. We however do not get to rest. There are mountains to climb and a race to chase.

Today we transfer to our next hotel high in the Italian Dolomites and ride to boot. The ride card is reasonably serious for a ride that is not that far and one which you can add km’s to if you need more. This 65km ride has almost 2000m of climbing and takes in the Passo Rolle, Passo Valles and more.

We will return by bike to our new hotel and settle in for refreshments and dinner.

26th May 2020

Day 4 Stage 16 Udine > San Daniele Del Friuli 228 km

Today's Ride: 50km /1700m or 95km / 2200m

Today we will forsake the thrill of the Giro d’Italia as we have prioritized a number of bucket list climbs to tick off. The Sella Ronda Loop is well known to many cyclists and seriously respected by the pro’s who may have to race over this course.

First the Passo Pordoi, a steady climb at 6.8% but with 27 switchbacks to the top the countdown will hurt though the ascent meets all expectations as the spectacular views unfold. A glorious descent and we turn for the Campolongo Pass which again is a short ascent with views that can only be described as astonishing.

This 90km ride will take your breath away, thrill you and punish you. Riding in Italy! Almost better is to finish the day with Italian food.

27th May 2020

Day 5 Stage 17 Bassano Del Grappa > Madonna Di Campiglio, 202 km

Today's Ride: 55km

As the race nears the finish the stages get typically harder, destroying all but the best. Phil likewise has designed a ride for today that is a classic Italian affair.

We have included in our day a transfer to new location, a stage viewing and a spectacular ride. Monte Bondone is a 22km climb that is one of 4 on the ride card for the pro’s today. We will tackle just the one which though only having an average gradient of 6.4% it does have a few really tough segments that are more than 10%.

We will recover and wait for the peloton at the top of this climb before descending to Trento and finishing our transfer to Bormio.

28th May 2020

Day 6 Stage 18 Pinzolo > Laghi Di Cancano 209 km

Today's Ride: 5km / 1600m Elevation

Our arrival in Bormio heralds a climb that is on every cyclists bucket list, it demands attention and is respected like no other. With 47 switchbacks the Passo della Stelvio tips the scales as one of the highest passes in Europe at a staggering 2758m.

The race passes over the Stelvio today and our intention is to make an early start to give everyone a chance to conquer this climb. It will be a sensational day on the mountain but hedging our bets on the weather and comfort is key to making this climb and day a success for all.

Far better to watch the struggles of the pro’s from the comfort of a couch, the pain in our legs a distant memory.

29th May 2020

Day 7 Stage 19 Morbegno > Asti, 251 km

Today's Ride: 30km-70km/ 1500m Elevation

The tensions of the GC contenders are rising as the opportunities to attack dwindle. Our response is to throw possibly one of the hardest ever climbs raced onto your ride card.

We will leave the pro’s to their own devices today as we need to focus on our epic challenge, the ascent of the Passo Mortirollo. We will ride from our hotel for this challenge and finish the day at Lake Como. In a typically Italian fashion our focus will be on the ride, the food and after conquering this climb, the day’s end in a glorious setting.

30th May 2020

Day 8 Stage 20 Alba > Sestriere, 200 km

Today's Ride: 45km

The rides on this trip just get better. Shorten or lengthen them as you prefer but remember, the climbs in Italy are steeper than anything you have trained on in preparation for this trip.

There are many who try and ride the wall of Surmano, and in any number of way’s, climb it. Whichever way you get to the top it is time to pray to the patron saint of cyclists, the Madonna Ghisallo who will bless you for your efforts.

Lakeside riding on the return journey to a relaxing evening that starts with watching the stage finish of the Giro. Followed by the continued exploration of Italian food.

31st May 2020

Day 9 Stage 21 Cernusco Sul Naviglio > Milano, 16.5 km

Today's Ride: 30km-70km/ 1500m Elevation

The finale, who will take line honours? It changed on the last day in 2017!

We have an early ride planned around Milano but first a transfer to our new hotel where we can settle in and choose to rest our legs and take in the sites and finish in a more relaxed manner if that is your preference. The Giro finish village will be a festival site, movement and colour celebrating all things Italian and racing. Today is also your opportunity to celebrate, you have had some great rides, your Italian Odyssey finished for this year! Our ride, should you accept will be a reconnaissance of the ITT route for the pro’s later in the day.

Our last pedal before we spectate later in the day. We will celebrate the finish and our last night together with a farewell dinner.
