Closure

As the final weeks of the 2015 season unfold on the roads of Abu Dhabi, I’m sure there is the typical end of season banter between the riders, season breaks planned, who is going where?

The season is now a long one and training for 2016 begins in only 3 weeks.

The 2016 Giro d’Italia route was announced earlier this week, the Tour de France next. While the Giro route didn’t disappoint with 3 time-trials, a stint in the French Alps, the usual sojourn to the Dolomites to conquer roads and climbs classed as formidable we will wait and see how Le tour de France version 2016 unfolds.

The end of season is always busy, the Grand tours over , the Worlds and Lombardy the traditional conclusions and now with the expanding world tour, Abu Dhabi.

Both the Worlds and Lombardy were sensational races.

Nibali, following a disgraceful exit from La Vuelta came to the Lombardy on form and with a committed team. The Sicilian was on a mission to win. He clearly knew every detail of the descent and attacked like a man possessed. Even I, still a fearless descender watched in a state of suspense as he held each corner to stamp his authority on the race.

The worlds created a new champion that has been embraced unequivocally as the new face of cycling. A victory in old school integrity, Sagan rode with only 2 team mates representing Slovenia with a pride. A stunning attack and win that evoked the spirit of sport, achievement against the odds.
