The Giro d’Italia is known for its spectacular scenery, courses more daring than the Tour de France would use, and the passionate Tifosi.
The Giro d’Italia will be the star of the Grand Tours for 2017 as this great dame celebrates her 100th year. The likelihood that the biggest names in cycling will contest the Giro in this signature year is high, seeking to add the Giro crown to existing palmares.
Whatsmore the Giro is fantastically accessible in comparison to the Tour de France. Fans will experience intimate spectating opportunities as the race unfolds and our guests will have the opportunity to ride with Phil Anderson on a very relaxed pre Giro indulgence in picturesque Tuscany before Phil moves on to chase the race high into the Italian Alps..
Phil Anderson Cycling Tours present our 2017 Giro d’Italia, an opportunity not to be missed, an experience designed to celebrate the 100th running of the race. Phil Anderson won stages in the Giro in 1989 and 1990, he loves Italy; the journey to the Giro always a fond time for a professional cyclist. Italy a place where the food, vino and let’s not forget the coffee takes precedence over just about everything else
Stage 10, 39.2 km ITT Foligno – Montefalco
Today's Ride: 30km Easy Welcome RideOur tour begins from the Pisa San Ranieri Hotel. Conveniently located close to Pisa Airport. On arrival Phil and his staff will assist with your bike set up and with introductions over we will transfer to our Tuscan Hotel.
The traditional Phil Anderson Cycling welcome ride will set the tone for next 3 days as we roll our legs out through the Tuscan hills, training rides in a sense followed by lazy afternoons watching the antics of the pro’s. The 2017 Giro includes 2 Individual Time Trials and today the main contenders will have to focus on a course long enough to create time gaps.
Traditions prevail at this 100th Giro and tonight Phil Anderson will host dinner.
Stage 11, 161km. Fiirenze - Bagnodi Romagna
Today's Ride: 65km Rolling HillsThese early training rides are an elegant affair. A late morning roll out through classic Tuscan villages to tick the legs over. Vine lined laneways and olive groves open out to the first of the small ranges of our ride where there is a chance to stretch the legs if need be.
Stopping for espresso or perhaps lingering over Italian pastries an inevitable part of the ride experience in the sun drenched larder of Italy. Our ride over, there always time for a longer effort or an exploration of the culinary delights over a late lunch.
The peloton will roll through Tuscany at a slightly higher rate than our own, a classic Apennine affair over the backbone of the Italian peninsula. A relaxing afternoon under the vines, with an eye the Giro or not!
Stage 12, 237km. Forli - Reggio Emilia
Today's Ride: 100 km Rolling TuscanHillsToday’s Giro will be a stage for the sprinters and while we will not be including sprint drills in our training ride we may make the time to watch the pro’s battle it out at day’s end.
Extending our training ride into the further reaches of the region, the picturesque imaginings of riding in Tuscany will be revealed in a constantly changing landscape. Rural roads will lead us to the foothills of the Apennine Mountains where cyprus lined roads will climb slightly on the first assessment of your Giro training program.
Our morning training ride done preparations will begin for lunch and a relaxing afternoon where we may watch the final moments of the Giro stage before our final meal.
