Phil Anderson OAM is one of our cycling heroes. He won gold in the 1978 Commonwealth Games, turned pro, and joined the intensely competitive professional European road circuit with a career spanning 16 years and culminating with another Commonwealth gold in 1994, the year of his retirement.
Anderson is well known for being the first Australian (and first non-European) to wear the prestigious yellow jersey in the Tour de France. His daring challenge of the French favourite, Bernard Hinault, and his exploits on the road, are stories full of pain, fierce determination and excitement. Ultimately Phil Anderson wore the yellow jersey 11 times and rose to number one in the world.
Since his retirement in 1994, Phil Anderson has worked as a consultant and expert to the cycling fraternity in addition to sports commentary and sports development.
In 1997 Phil Anderson established his touring business and in 1998 he took his first group to the Tour de France. With a proud history as a professional cyclist, Phil Anderson’s trademark work ethic and passion for the sport are an essential part of his cycling tour experience. His philosophy is to design a cycling holiday experience of a lifetime that will bring you back for more year after year.
Europe is Phil’s backyard. There are few grand tours, Classics, or professional races he has not been involved in, raced, and quite likely won; a palmarés that brings to his experiences a talent that many operators seek to emulate. Phil Anderson Cycling now offers exclusive tours to the Tour de France and beyond. Phil and his team can design unique travel packages and customised experiences to all cycling fans from the smallest group to a coach sized group.
Our range of tours for 2014 is now live and can be viewed at philandersoncycling.com.au/
The world’s biggest annual sporting event, the Tour de France, put on a huge show this year. Phil Anderson in conjunction with Phil Anderson Cycling Tours celebrated a massive few weeks, playing host to over 200 people across six tours throughout the 100th Anniversary event.
Phil Anderson Cycling does not offer official packages to the Tour de France. We believe that overall “official status” is detrimental to the tour experience. The logistics of the Tour de France are gargantuan and the additional expense of an official operators license does not guarantee you a better tour experience. Additionally, the huge costs of this license must be passed on to you, the guest. We believe we offer better value for money and a better experience without the cumbersome difficulties official treatments would add to your cycle travel program.
In the constant evolution of improving his business, Phil Anderson has now joined forces with Sportsnet Holidays, Australia’s premier sports travel and holiday business.
Sportsnet are able to provide our guests with all the additional services they require to complement their cycle travel experience.
Phil Anderson is proud to offer his guests the opportunity to rent an Oppy C6 for the duration of their European Cycling Trip.
Our bikes come in standard sizes and include a spares kit, computer, pump and tools. Remember our staff will be on hand to assist should you suffer the misfortune of a “mechanical” and the likelihood of using these tools is remote.
"The trip was awesome - very special indeed. Unfortunately I had bronchitis and a chest infection for the duration, which added to the challenge of the riding, but made the adventure no less memorable. The countryside is breathtaking; being close enough to touch the riders, exhilarating - especially Alpes d'Huez for stage 20; and the food was excellent. Phil and Rudy are great company and do a wonderful job. I'll certainly be back - for the Giro or Vuelta. Thanks for all your help in the lead up."

"We are back in Provence for the last phase of our holiday, after our few nights in Paris, and we wanted to say thanks to the whole PAC team for a great time in the Alpes.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all the arrangements, accommodation and hospitality from start to finish. It’s nice to be lucky enough to be in a nice tour group of like-minded people, but the efforts of Phil, Rudy and Ben – and without doubt yourself in the lead-up and during – to make sure everything is well planned and well executed on a daily basis is a credit to everyone. It’s reassuring when you’re being looked after by a team that cares.
With best regards to all."

Thanks for a fabulous riding trip.
I loved being amongst the vineyards in Alsace and in the stunning mountains around Grenoble. It was inspiring and refreshing.
Thank-you too for your three superb meals: the degustation, the meal at Napoleon's and the farewell dinner in the leafy garden. They were exceptional. An epicurean delight
Thank you again for an amazing time ."

"Fantastic time highly recommended! Phil's local knowledge was invaluable and added the overall tour."

"Enjoyed the tour as non-cycling participants, being part of a small group, yet having the flexibility of explore on our own, seeing parts of France not normally accessible to the 'regular' tourist. The accommodation set among the vineyards was idyllic, the city hotel wonderful, and the included meals were fantastic, amazing, superb."

"This trip fulfilled all of our expectations. It allowed for riding the famous cols and experiencing incredible chateaus and the sights, sounds and color of the tour. We loved the commentary from Phil and Rudy and Dylan provided updates on the younger riders in the tour. To be guided and "pushed" by Phil to the summit is a story to be retold over and over. Not many can say they were guided by a former yellow jersey winner, got to follow a Paris-Roubaix rider down the cols and had first hand stories about the riders."

"I loved this tour. It provided a great balance between riding and other experiences; I also loved the manageable (ie small) group size. The accommodation in Revel was wonderful. Also appreciated the reasonably laid-back approach of the guides: made it feel like we weren't merely 'customers' and added to the overall experience."
